Purple Rain’s been named the greatest movie soundtrack of all time.

Vanity Fair magazine’s carried out the editorial poll in the US. The full top 50 list will be revealed next month.

Purple Rain topped the chart, closely followed by A Hard Day’s Night, The Harder They Come, Pulp Fiction The Graduate and SuperFly.

UK movie Trainspotting came in seventh followed by Saturday Night Fever in eighth place.

American Graffiti and The Big Chill rounded out the top ten.
