Simon Beale Simon Beale

Simon presents Heartbreakers, seven days a week, from 10pm...

About Simon...

Simon’s interest in radio started when he was very young, recording pretend radio shows from his bedroom in Dartford with a massive audience of... one – himself! Whilst still at school, he got involved in his local hospital radio station and then a community station in SE London (RTM Radio) which he joined after leaving school in 1988.

As well as presenting, his career has included being a record librarian, traffic reporter (radio & TV), client relations manager and commercial producer, working for a variety of different stations.

Simon joined Heart in the summer of 2002, covering programmes for other presenters who were on holiday until January 2006, when he moved to his regular late night show in London, and is now branching out into the Midlands.

He’s married to Esther and they have 3 children - Thomas, Naomi and Isaac.

More about Simon:

Do you have any hidden talents?
I play piano and keyboards.

What’s your best chat up line?
Obviously, BEFORE I was happily married with 3 children (just to make that clear!), my favourite was “Excuse me, do you have your phone number, I seem to have lost mine”. Never worked.

What’s your karaoke song of choice?
I’d always go for “New York State Of Mind” by Billy Joel or “Lately” by Stevie Wonder. But I wouldn’t mind trying out a big band number like “Mack The Knife” – preferably with a live band. OK, I’m dreaming now.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

I always wanted to do that thing they could do in “Rentaghost” where you hold your nose to make yourself disappear and then appear again somewhere completely different. How many times have you been on a long journey and you “just wanna get there”. Here’s the answer!

What is your ‘Time Tunnel’ year and why?

1987, without doubt. In my memory, it was sunny for most of the year (except when the hurricane hit!). Johnny Hates Jazz, A-ha, Curiosity Killed The Cat, Style Council, Level 42, Five Star, U2 – love ‘em all!
