There was plenty of British success at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles last night.
Atonement won best film drama, at a toned-down ceremony.
A half hour news conference replaced the usual showbiz glamour because of the Hollywood writers' strike.
Cate Blanchett, who won the supporting-actress prize for the Bob Dylan tale I'm Not There, said in a statement: "I wish circumstance would allow me to be there."
Sweeney Todd came away with two awards including earning Johnny Depp the Globe for best actor in a musical or comedy for his title role as the barber who kills customers in his quest for vengeance.
Along with Sweeney Todd, three other films received two prizes, with the tragic romance Atonement winning the top honor for best drama, plus the Globe for musical score.
Other winners included the rodent tale Ratatouille which walked away with Best Animated Film.
The awards also cover TV shows and this year the honour of Best Series (Musical or Comedy) went to the Ricky Gervais creation, Extras.
