A cross-party group of MPs today called for Bruce Forsyth to be knighted for the "general happiness" he has brought to the nation.
One of them called the entertainer, who turned 80-years-old last week, was a "national institution."
The call has received the backing of 26 other MPs, who praised the Strictly Come Dancing host's outstanding contribution during his long showbiz career.
Bruce was given a CBE in the 2006 New Year's honours list but the MPs said a knighthood would be "well deserved".
The MPs called on the Government "to give proper recognition for this success and his longevity in the industry spanning over 60 years and his unstinting work for charity with a well-deserved knighthood".
