Devastating News For The Reality TV Star...

jade_goody_small.jpgJade Goody reportedly has cervical cancer and is flying back to the UK for more tests and treatment.

The news was broken to the 27-year-old mum-of-two while she was appearing in the Indian version of Big Brother.

She was called into the Diary Room to speak to her UK doctor who told her the results of a recent biopsy.

Her spokesman Mark Thomas said: "It is pretty obvious that she was looking forward to her time in the house but her health is the first priority and she is flying back for treatment and more tests."

What is Cervical Cancer?

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women under 35 but the vast majority of cases still occur in older women.

Around 3,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year in the UK and the prognosis is good if it is caught early.

What are the symptoms?

The most common symptoms of cervical cancer include...

* Bleeding between periods or after sex, or new bleeding after the menopause

* Unpleasant smelling vaginal discharge

* Discomfort/pain during intercourse

How is it diagnosed?

Smear tests detect the early signs of cervical cancer - but it is important to see your GP if you have any of the above symptoms, even if you've recently had a smear test.

Dr Clive Richards is incharge of screening in Nottinghamshire. He says smear tests are the best way to spot the early symptoms, "It can detect very early changes in the neck of the womb, which can lead on to cancer...Women can have these changes...most of which don't go on to cancer, but we pick them up and make sure that anything possible is treated".
