A survey of the most common supermarket items has found the price of Basmati rice has shot up 110 percent and pure corn oil by 182 percent.
In response to rising food prices, Sally Scantlebury from FEAST - the Food and Farming Network has been telling HEART how to reduce your food bills without reducing the quality of your diet.
Sally is encourage people not to throw away their left-overs. She wants people to use the remains of tonight's dinner to make tomorrow's tea, "People used to have the traditional Sunday roast and then they would make dishes using the left-overs from that - for example Shepherd's Pie".
Sally also wants people to enjoy cooking - and stop buying ready meals, "Don't watch a DVD, do a big cook and put it in the freezer - Then you've got your own ready meals that are freshly made and you know what's gone into them".
Sally's daughter Sadie is also a budding chef. She's given HEART the recipe for her 'Delicious Burgers' - so get cooking!
Ingredients -
Approx 500g of good quality minced beef
1 medium red onion - very finely chopped
1 handful of finely chopped fresh green herbs
A good glug of garlic and basil oil
Put all the ingredients into a big bowl, Using your clean hands squelch everything together until it's all mixed evenly.
Shape into burgers - about 1cm deep and fry slowly in a frying pan using a little oil. Flip and fry on both sides. Check the meat is cooked through - and then enjoy!
