Celine Dion

Real Name: Céline Marie Claudette Dion Angélil
Birthday: 30 March 1968
Home Town: Quebec, Canada
Biggest Hit Singles: My Heart Will Go On, number one, 1998, Think Twice, number one, 1994
Career Highlights: Five Grammy Awards, only female with two UK million-selling singles

Believe it or not Celine Dion has been making music since 1982, when she won the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival, and then the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 (for Switzerland), singing in French for both.

In 1990 she sang for the first time in English on her Unison record, and first caught the eye of the American and UK public. From there she recorded the title track for Disney’s Beauty And The Beast in 1991, and hit the big time. She repeated her Hollywood success with the classic ballad My Heart Will Go On, made for the 1007 blockbuster Titanic, starring Leonardo De Caprio and Kate Winslet.

By the end of the 90s Dion had sold over 100 million records worldwide and bagged a slew of industry awards. Then, after releasing and promoting thirteen albums during the 1990s, Dion decided to settle down, and her producer-husband Rene Angelil’s diagnosis with throat cancer also prompted her to retire temporarily. But she could not escape the public eye and in 2000, the National Enquirer published a false story saying she was expecting twins. Dion sued the magazine for more than $20 million. Funnily enough, a year after the saga she gave birth to a son.

Over the years Dion's music has been influenced by pop and rock to gospel and classical, and she is famous for her technical singing skils and powerful vocals.
