Museums & Galleries Month Launch - 10:30AM 01/05/2008

Nottingham Museums & Galleries will be holding an event in the Square to celebrate the launch of Museums & Galleries Month. Consisting of stalls, displays and activities, the public will be encouraged to interact, have fun and celebrate the range of venues and activities that are offered across the city all year round.

The newly formed "Chatsworth Players", a collaboration of local amateur dramatic societies drawn together by Sylvia Jackson, (for many years a professional actor and director and now living in Bakewell) is performing Arthur Miller's magnificent award winning drama "The Crucible" in May 2008 at venues across Derbyshire Dales. The play was written in 1953 as a criticism of the McCarthy "witchhunts" in America to root out communism, drawing a parallel to the Salem, Massachusetts purge on witchcraft in 1692, to which the play remains historically faithful. However, it's myopic and unjust to relegate Maceo's legacy to the shadows of The Godfather of Soul, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Prince, or any of the other celebrated artists who've invited this highly gifted musician to join their touring and recording ensembles.
