A night of the best of British glam rock with three classic bands of the era. On one amazing bill SHOWADDYWADDY, SWEET and RUBETTES (featuring Alan Williams) will be putting on a sensational show and transporting you back to the very best of seventies glam rock.
With their stylish rebirth of the 50’s Rock N’ Roll, SHOWADDYWADDY became one of the biggest groups of the 70s and dominated the British charts. After their first release “Hey Rock and Roll” shot to no.2, they went on to spend an impressive 209 weeks in the chart’s top 40s. Ten single releases were top ten, including the smash no. 1 “Under the Moon of Love”. They are now celebrating over 30 years in the business.
Joining Showaddywaddy on this spectacular bill is one of the biggest glam-rock bands of the era, SWEET. Sweet are the quintessential 70’s glam rock band, who brought androgynous looks and crunching guitar pop to the masses. Including their smash no.1 “Blockbuster”, they had 17 charting hits and spent over three years in the UK charts alone.
Completing this classic bill, we present RUBETTES (featuring Alan Williams). Rubettes first made No.1 in 1974 with their very first single 'Sugar Baby Love' and after five weeks at the coveted No.1 spot in the U.K. they repeated their success throughout the world. 'Sugar Baby Love' sold eight million copies after which the Rubettes went on to have a further 15 International Hits establishing themselves, with their flamboyant Gatsby appearance, as one of the icons of the 70's Glam Rock era.

University Wind Orchestra: Musicality - 07:30PM 10/06/2008
location - Yard Gallery, Wollaton Hall, Wollaton, Nottingham
Conductors: Kieran O’Riordan Mark Aspinall Steppin’ Out! Guy WOOLFENDEDN Illyrian Dances Gustav HOLST arr. BRAND Dances from The Morning of the Year Leonard BERNSTEIN arr. STITH Three Dance Episodes from On the Town Plus - A selection of songs & choruses from the musical stage! Experience the magic of the stage in this sparkling evening of music from theatre, ballet and musicals. Guy Woolfenden’s Illyrian Dances found their beginnings in music originally composed for the Royal Shakespeare Company, reworked into a suite which is tender and ebullient in its evocation of Shakespeare’s mythical country. Gustav Holst’s Dances from The Morning of the Year is a more expansive and ambitious work, a contemplative masque on the English rites of spring which reflects nature’s recurring rebirth. In contrast, Leonard Bernstein’s vibrant and jazzy Dance Episodes from On the Town celebrate the hectic pace of life in downtown New York – a fitting nod to the composer in what would have been his 90th year. To round the evening off in style, musicians from the Wind Orchestra will be joined by the singers of Musicality, the University’s musical theatre society in a dazzling selection of songs & choruses from Broadway and the West End.

Moyet’s gorgeous soulful lament layered over Clarke’s trademark synth melodies produced a series of memorable singles including, Only You, Don’t Go, The Other Side of Love and Nobody’s Diary. After splitting up in 1983, Vince and Alison have since gone on to have their own successful careers, Vince with Erasure and Alison as a solo performer, both releasing critically acclaimed hit albums in 2007. Daniel Kitson - The Impotent Fury of the Privileged - 08:00PM 12/06/2008
location - Nottingham Playhouse
The world is a saddening mess, of unfathomable complexity and the simplest cruelty and yet, rather than raging or weeping, most of us still manage to eat snacks, do crosswords and occaisonally wash. But what if, what if we heave our compassion from wherever its buried and with courage enough to seem naïve or underinformed or oblivious to futility, we reach for something better. Something more engaged, more humane and less snack based.
An angry, frustrated and beautiul new show about wanting the world to change but not doing enough to change it.
"He represents and inhabits that place where no-one is cool, sussed, glamorous and sorted, and everyone is struggling, somewhere between absurdity and pathos, to put together a life less barren, and more fulfilled" Joyce Macmillan -The Scotsman
