The newly formed "Chatsworth Players", a collaboration of local amateur dramatic societies drawn together by Sylvia Jackson, (for many years a professional actor and director and now living in Bakewell) is performing Arthur Miller's magnificent award winning drama "The Crucible" in May 2008 at venues across Derbyshire Dales. The play was written in 1953 as a criticism of the McCarthy "witchhunts" in America to root out communism, drawing a parallel to the Salem, Massachusetts purge on witchcraft in 1692, to which the play remains historically faithful.
