Be warned! What may seem like a tried and tested explanation of your skills could actually be letting you down.
According to new research interviewers believe that many words and phrases used regularly on CVs are lazy and unimpressive.
Words like ‘adventurous’ and ‘seeks a challenge’ were given the thumbs down, suggesting candidates got bored easily and wanted to move on!
If you’ve ever used any of these on your CV, then you could be making a terrible first impression!
Heres What candidates say and What employers interpret it as.....
1. Good communicator = Non-stop chatterbox and gossip
2. Very motivated = Gets stressed and irritated easily
3. Very sociable = Party mad and likely to roll into work late/hungover
4. Highly Experienced = Has job-hopped all over the place!
5. Enthusiastic team player = Over keen, won’t understand role distinctions
6. Love travel = Likely to quit after a few months
7. Creative = A dreamer, doesn’t get the job done
8. Extrovert = Brash and obtrusive
9. Fast learner = Requires lots of training
10. Computer literate = Can just about turn the computer
