Tall Stories?!

Pinch punch…blah blah blah! And a very happy April Fool’s Day to you.

You know, that’s the tricky thing about being the guy who does the early show here at Heart. On this day each year I’m the one who gets to weave his way through the morning’s papers trying to work out which of the stories are the April Fool’s, which are for real & which could go either way. And in a world that is home to Amy Winehouse, Paris Hilton, Britney & an ever-growing band of ex-Big Brother housemates let me tell you the edges become more blurred each year.

But one story that I’ve just loved this morning concerns new French President Nicolas Sarkozy. April Fool??! Here’s the gist…

Claims have been made today that our little Gallic friend is to undergo revolutionary 'stretch-surgery’ in a bid to make him a bit taller. Quality. This way, the dinky French fella won’t look quite so titchy when standing next to his new missus Carla Bruni.

Several clues on the April Fool’s front here. Firstly, the “spokesman” is one `Luc Bigger’. Oh la-la! Secondly, the height-bursting surgery is to take place at the Poissin D’Avril Medical Centre - `Poissin D’Avril’ is the name the French give to April Fool’s, although it actually translates as `April Fish’, but I guess that’s just the French for you.

Then again……maybe there’s an element of truth to the whole charade. I’m thinking ex-supermodel Carla isn’t going to want to be in flat shoes for the rest of her life. Surely she must crave the chance to one day slip into some slinky high-heels again and not tower over her hubby. He probably quite likes the idea too (for her that is, not him. Although the idea of Monsieur Sarkozy popping on a pair of strappy Jimmy Choos would certainly provide a quick & effective non-surgical fix to his posture problems. Let’s face it, they’re very liberated, the French. And it would certainly guarantee him a pile of publicity!
