And rest………
Completed my final training run ahead of this year’s Marathon yesterday. Another long and weary three hours of pavement-pounding under my shoes and I can now take it a bit easier over the next fortnight.
Not that this last long run was without incident. Some persistent heckling from a little Jack Russell along the edge of Maidenhead’s Jubilee River proved a tricky obstacle. Yappy little thing. Low flying swans and a kamikaze two year old with a tricycle added to the fun, but I eventually made it yesterday afternoon to the safety of home and a steaming hot bath. Heaven. Mind you, the only problem with having a good long soak after a big run is that it allows the legs to start seizing up. So this morning it was back to bum-shuffling down the stairs. Great look!
Off to the gym later to let sports massage-man try & bash my legs back into shape & then maybe I’ll go for a swim. But one thing’s for sure during the next two weeks… NO…MORE…RUNNING!
Thanks are certainly due to Steve the fitness trainer / expert leg basher. I don’t think I could have expected to make it to the start line next month without his help (and his mad-as-a-monkey exercise ideas – see previous posts for details on “River-hop Twistercise”!)
Thanks too to Mrs.G for her encouragement. And more importantly thanks to her for putting up with the daily round of smelly sports kit draped over our radiators.
Thanks to the lovely people at adidas who kitted me out for the training runs (click here for a slideshow to see how professional & sporty they’ve made me look – if only the running could live up to the look!)
Pride of place in the mentions, however, goes to little Megan. She’s been the real inspiration for me running the Marathon over the last two years. A little life lost, but a little life that had and still has so much impact on those around her. Bless you Megan.
Thanks for reading….more soon
Big love
Gxx
