Wedding of the year

So the *biggest wedding* of the year took place today - Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin - a full two days before anyone was expecting it, the crafty things!

I read in the Observer last weekend all about the wedding details. You may have seen some of them yourself but the elaborateness of the whole sha’bang can always be enjoyed again.

For starters they’ve already had 3 hen parties in Manchester, the Canary Islands and Miami! Coleen’s has apparently asked that the female guests wear black so that she stands out in her designer dress costing £85,000 with a 25ft train! Furthermore two big name acts one of which is believed to be Westlife have been signed at a £400,000 price tag to perform at the reception and… (there’s more) when they fly back to the UK they’ll have another reception for family in Liverpool costing a quarter of a million pounds. Wow!

The whole thing will cost about £5million, half of which is being footed by OK! Magazine - in what is the most the magazine have spent on any celebrity wedding before; eclipsing the Beckhams (£1m) and Katie Price & Peter Andre (£1.75m). Of course the downside of the whole thing (if you can call it a negative when they’re giving you £2.5m) is that OK! will effectively own and control the wedding. They will deploy security everywhere, decide where people will sit, possibly even stop the ceremony to take more pictures.

My favourite aspect of the whole event is that the guests are staying at an exclusive hotel in the Italian Riveria called… wait for it… Hotel Splendido! That to me says a man from the UK went out there some years ago, launched a hotel and not knowing the local lingo added an Italian sounding suffix to his favourite English descriptive word. A bit like when you or I go to France and put the word ‘le’ before ‘bottle of red’ to get our evening ration… don’t try and deny it!!
