Britain's Got More Talent. Really?

There always seems to be something on the telly to keep me hooked. I'm starting to wonder if all the main tv networks have a big get-together (like a weekend-away or something) and work out who's turn it is for the next addictive show. For example, last summer it was Big Brother. Then just as that's coming to an end, X Factor kicks in as well as a new series of Spooks (granted, my tv habits are slightly varied). Then at the start of the year, the return of LOST (the best telly show in the world) which due to the writers strike is now taking a mid-season break til later in the Spring. So I finally thought on Sunday night "Phew, I can have a break from addictive programmes and, well, get a life". The Sky+ box was looking a bit full.

But then what started last night? The Apprentice. That's 12 weeks long! Already I want to give Raef a slap. HOW annoying is HE?

And I've just found out "Britain's Got Talent" is back for a new series from April 12th. Unlike last year when it was just on for a couple of weeks, this year it'll be a weekly show-down each Saturday night ... a bit like X Factor with the auditions first before the all-singing, all-dancing studio shows. Once again, the prize will be a cheque for £100,000 and the honour of appearing at the Royal Variety Performance. I know we've had years of this kind of thing before, but BGT seemed to tap into something last year. It was refreshing to see a variety of acts, instead of just solo singers or the next wannabe boy-band. From rap-dance groups, to that bloke with the monkey who did the Michael Jackson routine, comedians, jugglers and of course, the Carphone Warehouse salesman that can sing like Pavarotti.

Two things amaze me though whenever these talent shows come on: a) There's still enough people in UK who think they're good enough and willing to expose themselves on national tv ... and b) they often find someone good amongst that lot. Surely we'll get to a point where they start re-cycling auditionees from the past. So who knows, this year on X Factor we might get Steve Brookstein, Michelle McManus and Chico. You have been warned!

See you tonight @ 10.
