It's a small world
So, there's Nick Snaith addicted to home improvements. The improvements needed in the Beale household mainly involves just clearing mess. How do we end up accumulating so much stuff? Oh yes, that's it, we've got 3 children! It would be easier to win Mastermind than get an 8 year old to tidy his bedroom! I've got this image in my head that every room in our house will eventually look like something out of the Ikea catalogue or Good Homes magazine - without having one room that's wall-to-wall with junk. Hmmm, wishful thinking.
The problem is, most of the kids toys are made up of a thousand tiny pieces. So it's not as simple as just clearing up a few things and that's it, it's more a case of combing the room with a magnifying glass to find every accessory to every toy that can barely be picked up with a pair of tweezers.
Tom (our eldest) has got a Playmobil police station - it's fantastic. It's got it's own little front desk with computer, filing cabinet, etc - as well as a mini jail and a full set of characters. But it also includes the smallest gun, phone, truncheon and handcuffs you've ever seen. And they can all fit inside the very miniature brief case (it's like the new Heart TV ad ... but in reverse. A spec of dust looks massive in comparison). Now, try to find those amongst a stash of other toys. I did read some of his "Where's Wally" books in preperation.
Still, we're getting there. I can honestly say our home hasn't looked better. Kim & Aggie would be proud... and I didn't even wear those over-the-top looking marigolds. I've suddenly found our house has ... a floor!
See you tonight at 10.
