New Batman movie The Dark Knight has made more at the US box office in the last seven days than the previous Batman movie made in its entire run in cinemas.
The sequel is expected to have taken $221 million by Friday.
2005's Batman Begins finished its four-month run with $205.3 million.
Both films were directed by Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale as Batman.
Interest in the sequel has been stoked by Heath Ledger's edgy turn as the villainous Joker.
It was the last film he completed role before dying of an accidental overdose in January.
Meanwhile, Christian Bale turned out for the premiere of The Dark Night in Spain on Wednesday night.
He was happy to meet with fans but avoided questions from reporters.
He’s facing assault allegations from his mother sister. He denies the claims.
